Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
